Student Accolades, Awards, and Highlights for the 2015-16 Academic Year

  • All DSR students passed their juries at the end of the year with flying colors!

  • Catherine Kelly (Dalcroze AP III) received a perfect score on her Music Theory Advanced Placement Test. She also performed on the honors concerts at the Denver School of the Arts.

  • Several students from RS V and Dalcroze AP II presented in Princeton at the Dalcroze Society of America National Conference. Anna Staton, Brigid Dix, Maria Ciabanu, Ella Bondy, and Leslie Wilburn presented a demonstration class, performed a plastique Animée, and wowed audiences with stellar performances on their solo instruments.

  • Several students won Top Performer, Honorable Mention, or Superior Ratings at the Colorado Federation of Music Clubs Festivals this year for their solo performances and/or compositions: Leslie Wilburn (AP II), Brigid Dix (RS V), Nichole Graham (RS V graduate), Emma Graham(RS IV), Jerry Krim (RS II), Carl Krim (RS II), Liam Gibson (RS II), and Carson McConnell (RS I).

  • Ella Bondy (AP II) placed 2nd in the state of Colorado for the National Flute Association competition.

  • Several DSR students past and present were accepted to the Denver School of the Arts including Catherine Kelly (Dalcroze AP III) Leslie Wilburn (Dalcroze AP II), Luke Poirier (RS V graduate), and Rachel Kelly (RS V).

  • Several students are members of excellent music ensembles in the metro area including: the Denver Young Artist Orchestra, Colorado Youth Orchestra, Front Range Youth Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Children’s Chorale, and Rocky Mountain Children’s Choir. These students include Tristan Regini (RS IV) Avery Delgado (RS IV), Maria Ciobanu (RS V), Morgan Ward (RS V), Ella Bondy (Dalcroze AP II), Leslie Wilburn (Dalcroze AP II), Jerry Krim (RS II), and Carl Krim (RS II).

  • Several students can be found in dance and theater productions including East High School, Between the Bones, Phamaly, and the JCC including Kate Logan (Dalcroze AP II), Avery Logan (RS II graduate), Max Rabbi (RS V graduate) and Tristan Regini (RS V), Leslie Wilburn (Dalcroze AP II), and Maria Ciobanu (RS V).

Student Accolades, Awards, and Highlights for the 2013-14 Academic Year

  • We raised nearly $1500 for the scholarship fund through concerts and performances.

  • The DSR allocated over $2000 in scholarships/donations to allow students to take Dalcroze Education classes who wouldn’t otherwise be able to do so.

  • Rhythmic-Solfège II, III, IV, and V wowed audiences in demonstration classes and performances here at the DSR, for the Dalcroze Society of America, Colorado State University, the Orff national conference, and the DSA National Conference.

  • Anna Lynn Winfrey won the Colorado division of the National Federation of Music Clubs Stillman-Kelly Competition. She received $250 in scholarship money for her efforts and went on to compete in the Western Regional Competition.

  • Several students received Superior ratings at the Colorado Federation of Music Clubs festivals this year: Julia Luyten, Willem Luyten, Sophie Luyten, Brigid Dix, Morgan Ward, Anna Lynn Winfrey, and Leslie Wilburn.

  • Julia, Willem, Sophie and Leslie all won "Top Performer" in their respective Divisions at the State CFMC Competition. Leslie's composition, "Minuetto and Trio" went on to the Western Regional United States Competition for CFMC. Willem and Sophie each won prizes money for their performances at the Top Performer Concert on the 26th of April.

  • Students from the DSR are playing in top ensembles around Denver: Denver Young Artist Orchestra, Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra, Rocky Mountain Children’s Choir, and the Colorado Children’s Chorale.

  • Katie Couch was the top scholarship winner from the Dalcroze Society of America.

  • Katie Couch will received her Dalcroze Certificate in 2013! Katie Couch joined our staff this past fall teaching some Eurhythmics courses and assisting in Rhythmic-Solfège III, IV, and V.

  • This fall we will continue our latest course here at the DSR: Dalcroze Advanced Placement Theory and Solfège. At the end of this two-year course, students have the opportunity to take a nation-wide exam and receive college credit for their outstanding musicianship.

  • This fall we will add a new here at the DSR: Dalcroze Education for Students on the Autism Spectrum. This exciting new course is designed to stimulate the musical capacity of students on the Autism Spectrum who are primarily non-verbal or exploring verbal skills.

  • Rhythmic-Solfège II, III, IV, and V wowed audiences in demonstration classes and performances here at the DSR, for the Dalcroze Society of America, and Colorado State University. In the fall, students will present demonstration classes at the Orff national conference, in the summer of 2014, they will perform at the 2014 Dalcroze National Conference, and in summer of 2015, they to perform at the International Dalcroze Congress in Geneva, Switzerland.

  • Rhythmic-Solfège V presented a stellar demonstration class and Plastique Animée performance in Seattle, WA at the Dalcroze Society of America National Conference.

  • Julia, Willem, Sophie and Leslie all won "Top Performer" in their respective Divisions at the State CFMC Competition. Sophie also received first runner-up in the Colorado MTNA competition in Violin Performance.

  • Students from the DSR are playing in top ensembles around Denver: Denver Young Artist Orchestra, Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra, Rocky Mountain Children's Choir, and the Colorado Children’s Chorale.

  • Katie Couch and Molly Porterfield were the top scholarship winners from the Dalcroze Society of America.

  • Katie Couch and Dr. Bonnie Jacobi will receive their Dalcroze Certificates this summer! Katie Couch will join our staff in the fall teaching some Eurhythmics courses and assisting in Rhythmic-Solfège III, IV, and V.

Student Accolades, Awards, and Highlights for the 2011-12 Academic Year

  • We raised nearly $1000 for underprivileged students in Peru through student solo performances at a benefit concert in October 2011.

  • We were responsible for nearly approximately 10 % of the ticket sales for the Taiko Drumming Concert in March 2012. All of the proceeds from that concert went directly back to Denver, and our contribution alone raised over $2500 for the Denver Rescue Missions.

  • Rhythmic Solfège III and IV classes presented demonstration classes for regional Dalcroze workshops here in Denver and Boulder, including the 2012 Dalcroze Academy at Colorado State University, with great success and accolades from the workshop participants, many of whom had never seen Dalcroze in action with students of that age/ability.

  • Rhythmic Solfège IV classes will present a demonstration class at the 2012 Dalcroze National Conference in Seattle, Washington. The executive board of the Dalcroze Society of America invited them to present a demonstration class as a part of the event. These demonstration classes help students learn to present themselves in public with poise, confidence, and clarity.

  • Five Rhythmic-Solfège students (Julia Luyten, Willem Luyten, Sophie Luyten, Gabriel Caldwell-Nepveux, Anna Lynn Winfrey) who participated in the Colorado Federation of Music Clubs not only received Superior ratings at their regional festivals on their applied instruments, but they went on to the State Competition and each student won first prize, top performer honors in their respective divisions. Sophie Luyten was honored with a special scholarship for her fantastic playing.

  • At the yearly Exit Individual Examinations, each of the Rhythmic-Solfège students performed solo rhythms and melodies at sight in addition to prepared rhythms and melodies. Each class had three jury members who gave commentary and feedback to the students. These jurors included a nationally recognized opera coach, a professor of music education from Colorado State University who also dance professionally, a conductor from the Denver Young Artist Orchestra, in addition to highly esteemed applied instrumental teachers in the Denver Metro area. I'm thrilled to say that every student passed with flying colors! Bravo to these young students and their parents who helped them through their daily practice throughout the year! 10 minutes a day, 5 days per week can go a long way!!!
